Two-Seater vs Three-Seater Garden Arbours
A two-seat arbour is usually the better fit for smaller gardens, patios and quiet corners. A three-seat arbour gives more room for families and shared spaces, but needs a wider footprint.
Check the full external dimensions, including roof overhangs, rather than judging by seat width alone. Leave enough space in front for comfortable access and enough clearance around the structure for maintenance and airflow.
Enclosed vs Trellis Garden Arbours
Enclosed arbours provide more shelter and privacy, making them well suited to exposed gardens or seating areas where you want a stronger sense of enclosure. Trellis arbours feel lighter and more open, and they can also support suitable climbing plants.
If you want a structure that combines seating with practical storage, compare our garden storage range and storage arbour options.
Garden Arbours With Storage
A storage arbour can make especially good use of limited space because seating, shelter and storage occupy one footprint. They are useful for dry cushions, lightweight garden accessories and other items that benefit from being kept close to the seating area.
For a deeper comparison, read our Best Garden Storage Benches guide, which explains when a storage arbour can be more useful than a conventional storage bench.
Do Garden Arbours Need a Base?
A garden arbour should sit on a firm, reasonably level and well-drained surface. Paving, a prepared concrete base, stable decking or other suitable hardstanding can all work well. Avoid positioning a substantial timber arbour directly on persistently wet soil where moisture can remain around the base.
In exposed locations, ask whether additional securing or anchoring is appropriate for the chosen product and site.
Pressure-Treated Garden Arbours
Pressure-treated timber is particularly useful for garden structures that remain outside throughout the year. Heritage Tanalised arbours are designed around pressure-treated redwood, while other ranges may use different finishes and care requirements.

Delivered and Professionally Assembled Garden Arbours
Arbours are substantial structures, so access and assembly should be considered before ordering. Measure gates, side passages, steps and tight turns between the delivery point and the final position.
Detailed Outdoor Living delivers and professionally assembles suitable arbours across the UK, removing the usual flat-pack construction job and leaving the structure ready to use.
